Naturally, a stable calls for a horse, and after deeming re-integration appropriate, I needed to find one for inspiration. I’ve expressed my search for a subject to a colleague, who, in reply, sourced and played a LiveCam (found on YouTube) monitoring the stall of Bucephalus (a yearling from Cascadia Caspian Horses in Washington State, U.S.).
The beauty of the word was intriguing, thus encouraging further investigation.
‘Boukefalas' (Bucephalus) was a Thessalonian pony- a known breed to be found in ancient Greek and Roman cavalries. In Greece, Bucephalus was considered to be immortal due to his role in Alexander The Great's cavalry- thus, his burial with Alexander The Great was no coincidence.
Bucephalus is labeled “champion” in association to Alexander- he was assigned the role of “horse” through the lens of human metaphysical desire.
To the ancient Greeks, the horse was a symbol of strength, beauty, and pride; this rendition of Bucephalus assumes the role of a horse who’s proven victorious in a world where competition isn’t visible whereas the Thessalonian Pony of our current world is extinct.
